DESCENDENTS of the Plymouth man who was the first black rugby union player to represent England will be at Plymouth Albion's game at home to Blackheath next month, as a campaign aiming at giving him greater recognition gathers pace.
James 'Jimmy' Peters pulled on the England jersey in 1906 - a full 82 years before another black player donned an England shirt, with Chris Oti picking up the mantle in 1988.
Although he was born in Salford, it is believed Jimmy's father worked for a travelling circus, but was mauled to death by a lion when Jimmy was just seven.
