A BELOVED children's theatre in Plymouth has been left devastated after being destroyed in the wake of Storm Darragh. The Soapbox Children's Theatre, based in Devonport Park, was due to celebrate its 10th anniversary this Christmas, and had built a bespoke Big Top auditorium tent to mark the occasion, with a 'beautiful' festive programme planned, including a huge new stage' and newly written shows.
Sadly, after winds of up to 90mph ripped through Devon last weekend, the brand new Big Top has been left in shreds and is beyond repair.
The tent, which contained a custom-made auditorium with raked seating for 180 people, took two weeks to build.
Stiltskin Arts, which runs the children's theatre, watched helplessly as it was torn apart in the storm. Now, they find themselves facing a shortfall of around £30,000, taking into account the cost of the structure, as well as ticket sales, and anticipated profit from the company's toy shop and cafe.
