Retired Naval Captain Laurence Taylor is now a resident at Merafield View Nursing Home in Plympton, but his remarkable life saw him honoured with a CBE in 1982.
Mr Taylor was visited by HMNB Devonport Base Warrant Officer Steve Harvey and Executive Officer Martin Malone, and had a Navy-themed cake.
