Locals slam 'ridiculous' plan for new homes

A MUCH-loved Plymouth allotment garden site is at risk of being lost to redevelopment and dozens of residents are set to object.

The land, in Coxside, is designated Neighbourhood Green Space in the Joint Local Plan and the community want to "return the site to community use and benefit".

Taurus Developments wants to build three properties at Allotment Gardens, Teats Hill Road and has submitted a pre-application enquiry to Plymouth City Council.

The land, owned by Chris Parsonage, was used as allotments and has been part of the neighbourhood for more than 70 years.

In 2018, the site was bulldozed much to the shock of locals as they were a popular attraction for visitors, appreciated by residents and an important green space for wildlife.

Since then, a planning application for a nine-apartment, four-storey block on the site met over 80 objections and planning was refused by the council (in 2018).

Kelly Inglis said: "I don't think we need any more houses around here and we would love to see it as a garden with beautiful flowers and trees or allotments again."
