The persistent wind took its toll on many a well-struck ball but even so there were many very tight battles across the pairings such that there were no dominant victories and many comments how the lead kept changing in the respective matches. Five matches went the full 18 to decide the outcome.
As the day progressed, it became clear that the tide seemed to be running the way of the home team, just. But then a late surge by the visitors resulted in a broad beaming smile by captain Ian Edwards as he knew that his team had snatched victory on the day and had completed the double over Trevose.
In doing so, they also became the only team to beat Trevose on their own track this year.
Bearing in mind the hammering that St Mellion handed out at home, captain Edwards diplomatically refrained from the scale of his team’s aggregate victory.
Mike Page, for St Mellion, won Nearest the Pin on the difficult par 3 third hold that played into the wind with the only shot that stayed on the green.
For Trevose to the prize on the slightly easier 8th went to Paul Harvey.
