Magical Stevenson is great for the Gate

A MAGICAL performance from Simon Stevenson in the Plymouth City Super League lit the torch underneath Cornwall Gate to help them return to Division A winning ways with a 7-4 success at Steampacket.

Eighteen tons rained down from the arm of Stevenson in a spell that included a maximum and a 101 checkout that was the best finish of the night.

Stevenson (28.90) also blew away his singles opponent with legs in 17, 17 and 18 giving him a 3-0 individual triumph.

Luke Johnson showed his class for the defeated side with ten tons included his team’s only maximum, and a 100 checkout, whilst Johnson and team-mate Webber both brightened up the individual phase.

Webber added a leg in 16 during his 3-2 defeat to Shaun Dring, while Johnson repeated that feat in a 3-0 victory of his own.

Bluebird A continued their decent start to the new campaign with an 8-3 success over Kings Arms B that was dominated by the power scoring of Glenn Halford, who heard scores of a ton or more called 14 times.

Halford was well supported by team-mate Alan Masters who added a 180 to his 11-ton tally, whilst the highest checkout of the night went to James Stoodley.

That 128 combination was also the best checkout of the week across the Division A fixtures and bettered a 105 by Paul Carpenter for the defeated side.

The business end of legs was also dominated by Masters who came through a 3-2 win with a 14-dart leg proving to be crucial.

Carpenter’s team-mate and reigning individual champion, Simon Kelly, put up the most resistance to the opposition with ten tons overall.

Paul Tackle’s 13 scores of a ton or more couldn’t arrest Ker St’s slide to an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Cherry Tree A.

Tackle’s tally was topped up by his team’s only 180, which was the perfect riposte to a maximum by Steve Mills of the Pennycross outfit.
