Men on the move raise funds for hospice charity

TEN-YEAR TOTAL SET TO TOP £1Μ FOR ST LUKE'S

BIG-HEARTED men of all ages strode through the streets of Plymouth on Saturday to raise funds for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth and the specialist end of life care the charity provides for so many local families."

A record 2,319 men put their best foot forward for Men's Day Out, ensuring the annual event's 10th anniversary was extra special.

This year's sell-out walk is set to bring in £130,000, taking the total since its debut in 2014 to just over £1million.

Mostly sporting distinctive Men's Day Out T-shirts, with some in eye-catching fancy dress, the men on the move covered a 12km (7.5 mile) route through the heart of the city, beginning and ending at Plymouth Albion Rugby Football Club at Devonport.

The funds raised will help St Luke's continue its compassionate care, free of charge, for people with terminal illness in their last months, weeks and days of life, at home, at Derriford Hospital and in their specialist inpatient unit at Turnchapel.

Along with the fun, banter and camaraderie of walking together, participants celebrated their precious memories of friends and family members who have died.
