Nick Giannotti: The man that knew Argyle were the right club for him

IT was three days after the start of this season that Plymouth Argyle announced a group of United Statesbased investors had bought a 20 per cent stake in the club for £4 million.

Florida real estate businessman Michael Mincberg joined the board of directors immediately and Nick Giannotti became the second representative of Argyle Green LLC in September.

Giannotti played football in his youth and won national under-16, under-17 and under-19 titles with the Nomads Soccer Club from San Diego, California, in the late 1990s.

As they had a British coach, Nomads also came over to this country for two summers and played games against Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton, Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United, which Giannotti was a part of.

Now aged 43, the Virginia-based businessman focuses on investing in emerging companies and owning renewable energy projects.

As recently as January 2022, Giannotti had not even heard of Plymouth Argyle, but the chance to invest into an English football club appealed to him.

It led to him attending the Pilgrims’ 1-0 League One win against Portsmouth at a packed Home Park on a Tuesday night that March and that convinced him he wanted to join the Green Army.

Giannotti flew from the US to attend Argyle’s game against Burton Albion on Saturday when their 1-0 win clinched promotion to the Championship, amid scenes of wild celebration at the Theatre of Greens.

In the first of a two-part interview with Herald Sport’s Argyle reporter, Chris Errington, Giannotti explains how Argyle Green LLC came about and what interested him about it.
