Heslop was the man behind the formation of the club back in 2021 after they were granted a franchise from the British Basketball League following the demise of the Plymouth Raiders, who have since reformed and are playing in Division Three South West of the National League at Plymouth’s Life Centre.
Heslop stepped in to help form a phoenix club and ensure professional basketball would continue in the city, but he cites work reasons and a failure to find the club a new permanent home behind his decision to step down.
In a statement, Heslop, who is the managing director of Plymouthnased Obedair Construction, said: “Further to discussions with the British Basketball league I have regrettably resigned as chairman of the Plymouth City Patriots and my last day in post will be December 15, 2023
“Further to my workload increasing massively over the past 12 months I advised the league prior to this season that I was unable to manage both the club and my businesses. This workload has only since increased and therefore have no alternative but to step away at this time.
