ACTION has been taken at Plymouth’s Royal William Yard, after a spate of low food hygiene ratings.
Particular attention has been paid to pest control, after mice caused one restaurant to see its food hygiene rating fall to two.
Recent inspections have led to food hygiene ratings of two being handed to The Hook and Line, and Wildwood, with both told to make improvements.
Block Café was given a rating of zero, just weeks after Bistrot Pierre also had the worst rating possible, and both were informed that urgent improvement was necessary.
The businesses, and RWY bosses, have stressed they take hygiene very seriously and improvements have already been made. The Hook and Line and neighbouring Wildwood, based in the Slaughterhouse, were told to make improvements to the cleanliness and condition of their buildings.
Steven Page, director of The Hook and Line, said the restaurant was given a top-level rating of five for its bar and kitchen, food handling and food practices and inspectors were happy with management and paperwork, but the overall rating fell to two because of a “pest control issue” with, he said, evidence of mice in the restaurant and throughout the yard, including bin areas.
