PREMIER DIVISION
It was a big win in the grand scheme of things for Plympton as it took them out of the bottom two at the expense of Bovey Tracey, who lost by four wickets at Sidmouth.
Plympton. (156pts) now have a 13-point advantage over Bovey Tracey (143), who are 23 points clear of bottom side North Devon (120).
“We hoped that Heathcoat would do us a favour against Paignton (161pts), although scorecard implies the pitch was really tough to bat on,” said Jonty Wallkier, the Plympton vice-captain.
With 60 points still to play for, Plympton are not out of danger yet. Leaders Sandford will be a challenge this Saturday.
Justin Wubbeling hit 101 for Plympton in a total of 266 for nine made in a rain-reduced 49 overs.
Wubbeling went in at 20 for two and was involved in stands that added 227 before he was the eighth man out.
There was significant support from Elliot Hamilton (35), Luke McLaughlin (26) and Walliker (20).
Yuvraj Singh (4-42) topped the B&K bowling returns. Eliot Acton and Josh Farley had two wickets each.
Bradninch & Kentisbeare were playing to remain in with a chance of retaining the Premier Division title they won last year and had every reason to go for the runs. The target came down to 238 after seven overs were lost to rain.
Bradninch & Kentisbeare needed 70 to win from the final eight overs with Tim Piper unbeaten on 73, but only four wickets in hand.
When Piper went for 90 an over and a half later, that dented B&K’s already slim hopes of winning the game. Twenty-three to win from the final over bowled by Hamilton was a few too many for B&K
Singh (30), Ant Badwal (21) and Acton (20no) all contributed to B&K’s final tally of 225 for nine.
