Pub allowed to retain outside bar

A WATERFRONT pub in a picturesque Cornish fishing village will be allowed to keep the outside bar it built without planning permission despite local objections.

A retrospective planning application for the Grade II listed Three Pilchards Inn, at Polperro, was called in by local Cornwall councillor Edwina Hannaford, in support of objections by the parish council. This meant it had to be decided by a planning committee of councillors, rather than by planning officers. The pub sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty and Polperro's conservation area.

Cornwall Council's east area planning committee heard last week that the pub replaced a shed used to smoke food with a larger timber-framed bar alongside timber decking, overlooking the harbour, at the beginning of 2022. It has submitted a planning application after the construction.
