I feels a very long time ago now, but as a teenager I was a bit of an environmentalist. It was a long time before Greta Thunberg was ever heard of, and even a decade before Al Gore's outspoken climate change film, An Inconvenient Truth.
But having become aware of the damage we were doing the planet and before I realised that the planet will be fine and it's ourselves and the world's organisms we're really hurting - I was a bit green.
I was a member of Friends of the Earth and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, and had posters of polar bears and whales in my bedroom instead of half-naked women.
I didn't go vegetarian or anything that extreme - veganism wasn't even a thing in those days - but I made sure my mum recycled and eyed my neighbours sourly when they opted to chop down a tree in their front garden to make room to park an extra car.
Becoming a journalist - the thing which I thought might help make a difference - actually imbued me with a great deal more cynicism, instead.
