HEAD COACH MAKES NO EXCUSE FOR ARGYLE'S CARDIFF MAULING
CHRIS ERRINGTON
Rooney's absence had no bearing on defeat

WAYNE Rooney did not believe his absence from the Plymouth Argyle technical area played any part in the outcome of the match as his side were thumped 5-0 by Cardiff City.

The Pilgrims' boss had to serve a one-match touchline ban after he was shown a red card in the 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers at Home Park on October 5. So instead he was in the stand close behind the away dug-out, alongside the likes of director of football Neil Dewnsip and chief executive officer Andrew Parkinson.

Rooney said: "Of course it's difficult watching it from the stands. You want to be there on the side of the pitch and trying to help the team but that was the punishment which I received."

Argyle assistant head coach Pete Shuttleworth was in the technical area for most of the match and Rooney was able to get regular messages to him. Rooney said: "You can communicate. That's something we do every game with different members of staff so there is no problem with that.

Argyle's away day woes continue with another heavy hammering

PLYMOUTH Argyle suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat by Norwich City at Carrow Road after a totally inept defensive display. Even by the low standards the Pilgrims have set on their travels in the Championship this season, which has seen them heavily beaten at Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City and Leeds United, this was an absolute shocker from Wayne Rooney's side.
