THE longest-serving lecturer at Arts University Plymouth has attended a Royal reception at Buckingham Palace in recognition of her lifelong service to creative education.
Helen Markes has been at the institution since 1988, beginning her teaching career by working on a Creative Lettering course at the then-Plymouth College of Art more than 35 years ago.
Now a senior lecturer and leader of the BA (Hons) Extended Degree, Helen was put forward by university colleagues and selected by the Department for Education to attend a Royal Garden Party.
Hosted by King Charles, the events are an opportunity for members of the Royal Family to recognise and reward the achievements of people who have made a positive impact in their community.
