A HISTORIC pub with a beer garden could be crowned by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) as the best boozer in England after winning the award for Plymouth's best hostelry.
The Walkhampton Inn, near Yelverton, was recently crowned Plymouth CAMRA Pub of the Year 2023 and is now in the running for the regional title.
The 17th century inn is vying to gain the title of the National Pub of the Year, currently held by the Tamworth Tap, 215 miles away.
The Walkhampton Inn dates back to the 1600s and is located in the village of Walkhampton on the Black Brook, a tributary of the River Walkham.
The pub is a stone's throw from the Walkhampton Common, which contains many archaeological sites, including the quarry from which the granite that built the original London Bridge came.
The pub closed in 2015 but was reopened in 2018 by new landlord Frazer Reed.
Frazer has lived on Dartmoor his whole life, growing up in Crapstone.
