STEVEN Schumacher’s hugely successful two-year tenure at Plymouth Argyle has come to an end after his appointment by Championship rivals Stoke City.
Official confirmation came at 6.30pm last night after more 30 hours of intense speculation that the 39-year-old would be leaving the Pilgrims.
Schumacher, who was at Stoke’s Clayton Wood training complex yesterday afternoon, will be taking assistant manager Mark Hughes, first-team coach Peter Cavanagh and goalkeeping coach Darren Behcet with him.
Argyle have confirmed long-serving first team coach Kevin Nancekivell will take interim charge of the Pilgrims, along with director of football Neil Dewsnip.
It is understood that Stoke will pay Argyle a substantial sum of close to seven figures as compensation for the departure of Schumacher and that his salary with the Potters will be in excess of £1 million a year.
