THERE are calls for a special task force to be set up to look at reopening Plymouth City Airport.
Plymouth Tory councillors want a cross-party effort as it emerged 90% of people responding to survey by The Herald think the 113-acres site should be used for aviation.
Tory group leader Andy Lugger has submitted a motion to today's full council meeting calling for the formation of a strategic working group to "progress the reopening of Plymouth Airport". He said such a group could look at legal steps that could result in the land returning to public ownership.
It comes as a survey published on PlymouthLive revealed an over-whelming majority of respondents wanted to see the Derriford site used by aircraft again. The survey asked: "What do you think would be the best use for the former Plymouth City Airport site?" A total of 264 people responded "aviation", with just 12 wanting "housing" and 11 ticking "industrial and employment".
