TRADERS in Callington are the latest to hit out at new parking charges in council car parks.
The rise in fees has already been condemned in Looe and other South East Cornwall towns.
Business owners and a councillor in Callington say the price hike could be the "final nail in the coffin for a small market town".
Since the end of May, Cornwall Council's 135 pay-and-display and pay-on-foot car parks have been grouped into three zones, with prices increasing across the whole Duchy. The changes proved so unpopular that the council reduced some tariffs following a public consultation but the new pricing has still come under attack by those who fear they are targeting the worst off and "decimating" businesses.
Callington is the latest town where people have spoken out - its once free first hour of parking has now increased to £1 with Sunday charges also being introduced for the first time.
