THE number of years women in Plymouth can expect to live in good health is much lower than the national average, according to the latest statistics released by the city’s public health chief. While Healthy Life Expectancy (HLE) for men is close to the England average, the HLE age for women in the city is lower.
The statistics are revealed in the Annual Report from the city’s Director of Public Health Dr Ruth Harrell.
As well as highlighting statistics about the health of the local population, the report also reflects on changes made to the city’s approach to improving health and wellbeing since the pandemic and some of the positive steps made in improving public health.
Figures in the report show that Life Expectancy (LE) in Plymouth is 82.5 years for females, and 78.8 years for males, with both being approximately 0.6 years lower than the national average.
