ACADEMIC TAKES OVER FROM PLAYWRIGHT LAURA HORTON
Writer Rosemarie is voted the city's new Laureate

POET and academic Dr Rosemarie Corlett has been named as the new Plymouth Laureate of Words following a public vote.

She takes over from playwright Laura Horton who has come to the end of her three-year stint.

Plymouth Laureate of Words is a creative partnership between Literature Works, Plymouth Culture and The Box, which sent out a call for candidates in June.

These were whittled down and then there was a vote. Poets Helen Thomas, Jon Nash and Bee Jarvis were also shortlisted.

A Literature Works spokesperson said: "The public have spoken - and we are delighted to share that Rosemarie Corlett has been selected by public vote to be the next Plymouth Laureate of Words"

Rosemarie is a poet and associate lecturer in English and creative writing at the University of Plymouth.

She said: "I'm thrilled to have been chosen. I'd like to express my huge thanks to Literature Works, Plymouth Culture and The Box, as well as to all of those who voted for me.
