PAVOOR Uliya island on the outskirts of Mangaluru is slowly disappearing due to extensive illegal sand mining forcing around 50 families to live with fear.
With a slogan 'Save Island, protect people's life', Catholic Sabha Mangaluru and a delegation of like-minded organisations paid a visit to the affected island on Monday. During the visit, parish priest of the Infant Jesus church Fr Manohar D'souza in the island said that there is a hidden attempt to kill the island dwellers alive through illegal sand mining.
"Those indulged in illegal sand mining must be booked for murder. But our pleas to the district administration and concerned departments have not received any positive response," he said.
