
The project aims at promoting the teachings of social reformer Basavanna. It was mooted in 2016 during Siddaramaiah's first tenure as chief minister, and got the nod at the cabinet meeting in 2019.
The foundation was laid in January 2021 by the then Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, just before bypolls in Basavakalyan constituency.
