According to the police, M Gopi (45), a resident of Anna Nagar and owner of an electrical shop, took his relatives from Tiruvannamalai to the river for a bath. During the outing, J Yokesh (17) and J Vetrivel (16), both from Raghavendrar Nagar, swam into a deeper area of the river.
"Gopi managed to rescue Vetrivel but was washed away while trying to save Yokesh," police sources said. Relatives called for help, and local youths, along with fire service personnel from Tirukoilur, launched a rescue operation.
