The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed it as the first human case of bird flu in India on Tuesday. This is the second case of H9N2 or bird flu in India since 2019.

The child was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit of a local hospital due to severe persistant respiratory issues, high fever, and abdominal cramps in February and was discharged three months later after treatment, the WHO said.

The child had exposure to poultry at home and surroundings, and there were no known persons with symptoms of respiratory illness among his family and other contacts.
