Rewind 2024: Indian cricket's rollercoaster ride from high of T20 World Cup win to Test series whitewash
The Statesman Bhubaneswar|December 24, 2024
From the ecstasy of winning the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup to enduring a historic Test whitewash at home, it has been a rollercoaster ride for the Indian men's cricket team in 2024, even as they continue their tussle for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under with one eye on making it to the ICC World Test Championship final for a third consecutive time.
TRIDIB BAPARNASH

For the women's cricket team, the journey has been more of heartbreaks, as it failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup, besides losing the Asia Cup. The team managed a few series wins at home and also a Test victory, but their overseas record has been a forgettable one, that ended with the latest hammering from Australia in the three-match ODI series Down Under. With the women's ODI World Cup scheduled to take place next year, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co will be expected to pull up their socks to counter the challenge from the Aussies, who have once again displayed their might in big ticket competitions.

T20 World Cup triumph Six months after the ODI World Cup final heartbreak on November 19, 2023 in Ahmedabad, Rohit Sharma & Co gave Indian fans the biggest gift in a decade when they clinched the ICC T20 World Cup in the Americas in June. Under the guidance of head coach Rahul Dravid, the team finally managed to end the ICC title drought that has evaded them ever since the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy win. Rohit led from the front, ending the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer, while pacers Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah topped the wicket-takers' chart.

'Energy is very good': Sundar on team's mood after final session

India's mini batting collapse at the end of the second day's play that saw the dismissals of the set pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, could be the turnaround the Australians wanted to go 2-1 up in the Border-Gavaskar series, but India's off-spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar believes that the tourists will bounce back strongly despite losing half their side at the MCG on Friday.
