Mukhtar was found guilty under Section 302 of the IPC and sentenced to life in jail and a fine of Rs 1 lakh by Special Judge (MP-MLA Court), Avnish Gautam, for the 1991 murder of Awadhesh Rai, the older brother of Congress leader Ajay Rai.
Mukhtar Ansari has received sentences in four cases over the past year. However, this was the first conviction for which he received a life sentence.
