Hyderabad: Over 2,000 colonies across Greater Hyderabad have been inundated after Friday’s heavy spell. Low-lying areas got inundated with stormwater entering residences and cellars of multi-storied buildings in the Bhandari layout in Nizampet and Srini Enclave in Petbasheerabad.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, five areas — Hafeezpet, Jeedimetla, Ushodaya Colony (Gajularamaram), BR Ambedkar Bhavan (Quthbullapur), and Balanagar — recorded over 100 mm of rainfall. Traffic was chock-a-block on the Hyderabad-Nagpur and Medak-Hyderabad highways after lakes overflowed.
“This has become a perennial problem for us. Officials inspect every monsoon but provide no permanent solution,” Anusuya, a grocer from Nizampet, said. Areas such as Kausalya Colony, Eswar Villas, and Reddy’s Enclave saw cellars inundated with even cars submerged.
