Hyderabad: Even as Hyderabad’s landscape is changing rapidly thanks to booming real estate and IT sectors, smaller municipalities and hitherto unknown civic bodies in and around Hyderabad have walked away with top honours in Swachh Survekshan urban rankings and Indian Sanitation League (ISL) category at the national-level sanitation awards presented by the Centre.

In the awards announced by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs recently, Telangana with 16 Swachh Survekshan awards (plus three ISL awards) closely trailed Maharashtra which topped the charts with 19 Swachh Survekshan awards. Assam won 14 awards, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 12. Neighbour Andhra Pradesh got seven awards.
