He sought a second opinion and was diagnosed with avascular necrosis (AVN) or 'bone death' of his left hip joint. AVN emerged as a silent epidemic during the Covid-19 pandemic due to overuse or heavy dosage of steroids; many hospitals reported a rise in patients undergoing hip replacement.
Suhas had the same option or could take medicines to delay the replacement. "I offered him the third option of cell therapy," said orthopedic surgeon Dr Gauresh Palekar from Jaslok Hospital.
