New Delhi: Eight years after its coal scam judgment singed the Congress-led UPA government, the Supreme Court on Wednesday slapped a cost of Rs 1 lakh on the NDA government for treating the holder of a validly allotted coal block during the scam period in a “callous, careless and casual” manner. BLR industries had applied for allocation of coal block through proper channels in 1994 and after meeting the procedural requirements and getting environment clearances, it was allotted a coal block in Narasinghpur, Madhya Pradesh in 1998.
The entire coal block allocations between 1993 and 2011 came under the SC scrutiny and its 2014 judgment led to en masse cancellation.
