Commuters locked in as Thane AC local train door fails to open

Passengers of a CSMT-Thane air-conditioned local had to alight at the Kalwa car shed after the doors of the train failed to open, leading to chaos and confusion on Friday evening.

CR officials have blamed the train’s guard for the incident that occurred on the local that departs from CSMT at 10.20pm. However, the guard has denied his fault.

CR’s divisional railway manager Shalabh Goel said, “The guard probably operated the key to open the doors before the train could come to halt. If an attempt is made to open the door before trains completely stops, the door will not open.”

He further said that speed is immaterial as doors will not open even if the train is running at the bare minimum speed.

Sources said that, both, the motorman and the guard were unaware about passengers not being able to alight as the door had not opened at the Thane station.
