New Delhi: Total crimes registered nationally came down by 7.6% in 2021 compared to previous year (2020), the latest NCRB data shows. The crime rate registered per lakh population has declined from 487.8 in 2020 to 445.9 in 2021. Last year, registration of cases under Indian Penal Code (IPC) declined by 13.9%.
Delhi recorded the highest crime rate of 101.7 per lakh population against elderly persons among all the states and UTs.
A total of 58,09,380 persons were arrested in 2021 under IPC and Special and Local Laws (SLL) cases combined, according to the NCRB.
