In the past three-and-half months, consumer commissions across the country have disposed of 68,587 cases, bringing down pendency by nearly 11%. Since August, the consumer commissions have also disposed of 78% of pending cases that were filed prior to 2000.
The consumer affairs ministry's five-month campaign, which was kicked off in August for "faster and effective" disposal of cases, is yielding appreciable results. According to official data, close to 6.3 lakh cases were pending on June 20 this year, which reduced to 5.6 lakh as on October 11. In less than three months, the number of pending cases filed before 2000 have also reduced to only 751 from 3,486 as on July 31.
