Mumbai: During the Covid pandemic, measles cases in India dropped to the lowest in many years, with 5,700 cases in 2021 and 5,604 in 2020, mainly because the airborne viral infection could not spread with children staying home. In the first six months of the current financial year, with non-existent Covid restrictions, India had already registered 9,489 cases and appears to be on the verge of topping the 2019 tally of 10,430 cases.

According to information put out by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), India has the highest number of cases in the world between April and September 2022. Pakistan is seventh on the list with 3,635 cases, while the US has 33 cases so far.
