Sattar’s comments came in response to an allegation about payments made to bring down the MVA government. His comments led to protests by NCP workers and provoked condemnation from across parties, including Congress and Shiv Sena. Sources said CM Ekanth Shinde, who was upset about the tone and tenor used by the Sillod MLA, called him up on Monday evening and asked him to extend an apology to Sule.
The NCP has demanded Sattar’s resignation and asked the CM to sack Sattar and his cabinet colleagues Gulabrao Patil and Ravindra Chavan for making derogatory remarks against women. While NCP activists burnt Sattar’s effigies and vandalised his posters, Sattar’s official residence near Mantralaya in South Mumbai was attacked with stones. NCP workers also gheraoed Sattar’s home in Aurangabad and pelted stones.
NCP activists have filed a complaint against Sattar at South Mumbai’s MRA Marg police station.
