New Delhi: Delhi's air quality improved within the 'very poor' category on Saturday, but there is a chance that it could deteriorate again. The city also recorded the season's lowest minimum temperature.
On Saturday, the air quality index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 500, was 303 compared with 346 a day earlier. The overall share of stubble burning in the city's PM2.5 pollution dropped from 19% to 17%.
"Local surface winds (10 to 18 km/h) for the next two days will improve dispersion, while a drop in minimum temperature will help in accumulation of pollutants... Despite moderate stubble emission share due to favourable upper-level wind flow (blowing from northwest) enhancing transport of pollutants, the AQI is likely to remain within 'very poor' on 12th and 13th due to efficient dispersion of pollutants by local weather with moderate temperature and moderate mixing layer height. On 14th, upper-level winds are likely to become weak, which will reduce transport of pollutants and improve the AQI," said a statement from System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research.
