PM Narendra Modi gave legs to BJP's Gujarat campaign on Sunday with a sprint of rallies across the Saurashtra region, two of them districts where Congress had stopped the saffron surge in 2017, and exhorted the electorate to "make the lotus bloom in every booth" by turning up to vote in record numbers.

Without naming either Rahul Gandhi or activist Medha Patkar, the PM wondered how Congress could even seek votes in Gujarat after hobnobbing with someone who had allegedly worked against the state's interest for over three decades.

"I want you to ensure that (Gujarat CM) Bhupendra (Patel) breaks Narendra's records. For that, Narendra will work for Bhupendra," Modi told the crowd at the day's first rally in Gir Somnath district's Verval.
