PUC Centres May Get Swarmed By 19L Vehicles In 3-Week Rush

Transport Dept Says System Snag-Free Now, Open To Starting New Centres

New Delhi: With the government making a valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate mandatory for getting fuel from October 25, the pollution checking centres are likely to witness long queues in the next few days.

According to transport department officials, there are more than 19 lakh two-wheelers, cars, taxis and commercial vehicles – of a total number of 79 vehicles registered in the city – which are running without the mandatory PUC certificate. Moreover, there are lakhs of vehicles registered in the neighbouring towns of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak, Panipat, Loni, Ghaziabad and Noida that enter Delhi every day but don’t go for regular pollution checks.

With the government giving little over three weeks to vehicle owners to get their vehicle’s emissions checked, a small network of little over 950 centres may get swarmed by anxious motorists queuing up to get the certificate.
