New Delhi: Known for its planned residential localities, swanky restaurants, gated colonies and a few urban villages and unauthorised regularised colonies, all three municipal wards in Janakpuri assembly constituency have a common problem — stray dogs.

Residents unable to ward off stray menace; encroachments, drainage other pain points

Residents rued about no solution to this menace as dog bites were being reported regularly. “It’s difficult to walk in the evening because packs of dogs chase you. Children are scared,” said Uday Pratap, a resident of Mahavir Enclave ward.

The constituency had four municipal wards — Janakpuri South, Janakpuri West, Sitapuri and Milap Nagar. However, after delimitation most parts of Sitapuri and Milap Nagar were merged into Mahavir Enclave, while some segments went to Janakpuri South and West. Both Janakpuri West and South are now reserved for women.

Another common problem is lack of a proper drainage system. Savita Sharma, a homemaker living near Pankha Road, said, “Sewer blockage in our lane (Hanuman Mandir Road) is the main issue. The overflowing sewage gets mixed with drinking water. We sometimes receive dirty water in our homes. Though we have lodged complaints many times, no action has been taken.”
