Municipal and provincial officials announced on Monday the city’s partnership with the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network and showcased some of the technology developed by the three major telecoms and their partners.

The pilot is part of Toronto’s broader congestion management plan. The data will be fed to the city’s traffic operations centre in Flemingdon Park, where staff oversee the city’s 2,500 traffic signals.

The city will see how well the technology can help reduce travel times and improve road safety by the end of 2025 before it considers permanently adopting them.
