Award-winning designer Nishka Lulla Mehra is no stranger to M&B. Back in 2019, as a new mum to Miraya, she bowled us over with her unabashed honesty and tenacity, and now, as a mum of two, the legacy continues. Boss mama, founder of Nisshk, the traditional fusion line and Nishka Lulla, the boho traveller chic prêt-e-porter line; and daughter to the ‘Czarina of Indian Fashion’ Neeta Lulla, she opens up in a no-holds barred tete-a-tete about her chalk-and-cheese mommyhood journey with Miraya and Kabir; and a two-years-in-the-making comeback with her label.
HOW DID YOU PREPARE MIRAYA TO WELCOME HER BABY BROTHER? I wanted an age gap between my kids that was neither too less nor too vast, so that they could relate to each other and grow up together. With than predicament, my husband Dhruv and I planned to have Kabir two and a half years to three years after Miraya was born. No sooner than we started trying, we got to know we were pregnant. We were elated and of course, so excited for Miraya to have a sibling. She has a lot of friends in her circle who already have siblings. So, it was not too hard to ease her into this transition. We told her that this is going to be her baby and she has to take care of it. We even explained to her how I have a big brother and her dad has a sister, so she could have some examples to relate to, and understand the concept of having a sibling.
