It's about capturing the car's personality, paying attention to details, and showing movement and emotion in a single shot. From sleek sports cars to rugged off-road vehicles, photographers strive to capture the essence and personality of each automobile. Attention to detail is paramount, as every curve, line, and feature must be showcased in its best light. Lighting techniques play a crucial role, whether harnessing natural sunlight or orchestrating intricate setups to highlight every facet of the vehicle. In this exclusive interview with automotive photography maestro Arnaud Taquet, we delve into the intricate fusion of artistry and technology within the captivating world of automobile photography.
Can you share the story of how your interest in automobile photography began? Was it a lifelong passion or something that developed over time?
It all started with a greater passion for cars than photography. I’ve always loved cars, and in fact, I landed a job in the car industry as a test driver for local and national French magazines.
Thanks to a very accommodating “customer”, I had the chance to learn how to drive at the early age of 14. In exchange for photographing cars for his magazines, he let me drive on his private track. This was likely my first customer, and we still collaborate in some ways today.
A few years later, after working for various magazines as both a test driver and photographer (to avoid sending two people on each press test drive), I launched my own magazine with the help of an editor in Paris.
