Although Posh scored twice in their midweek draw at Leyton Orient, the experienced manager was left frustrated that his players didn’t take enough risks going forward to create chances for Ricky-Jade Jones, Kwame Poku and Malik Mothersille.

Instead, they played safe too often and fed too many awkward passes back to keeper Jed Steer, who was forced to scramble the ball away on more than one occasion.

“We play to pass forward, we don’t play to pass back all the time,” said the 52-year-old Scot who is in his fourth stint in charge of Posh. “Of course, there’s elements at times when you have to control the game but a good example was Donay (O’Brien-Brady) when he came on – he passed forward, he broke the lines.
