Hurst played a pivotal role in both second-half goals for Luke Molyneux and Billy Sharp, securing victory for Doncaster over Bradford in Saturday’s Yorkshire derby.

Despite Andy Cook pulling one back for Bradford, Doncaster’s performance merited the win as they bounced back from a home defeat to Bromley, with Cook’s tenth goal of the season setting the stage for a frantic finish.

“Hurst was a joy to watch,” McCann said.

“He played on the half-turn, ran forwards and he, Mols and Billy caused them all sorts of problems. The challenge for Kyle is to do that consistently.

“We stayed calm with the boys at half time, because I was quite direct with him in the game against Bromley and in Thursday in training.

“I was direct with him about being a better team-mate and making sacrificial runs.

“It was pleasing to see that in the way we moved the ball, created chances and openings and breaking up in transitions. It was really good.
