The Hull defender - a £3.5m summer signing from Wigan - made his bow as a half-time substitute in the Tigers’ 4-0 humiliation at Carrow Road last time out.

And it was the 21-yearold’s error that led to the Canaries’ third goal, when he was tackled attempting to dribble between two opponents inside his own box.

It was, he admits, a bruising introduction to the Championship, but with head coach Tim Walter, below, committed to an attractive attacking style, Hughes says he and the rest of Hull’s back four will keep taking risks.

“Obviously everyone saw the mistake I made,” said Hughes, who came through the youth systems at Manchester City and Liverpool before making 58 League One appearances for the Latics
