At last! Falcons end record losing streak

Seven days after huge questions were asked of Steve Diamond’s side in the wake of a trouncing at Sale, Newcastle’s measured mix of forward dominance and neat game management saw off error prone Exeter.

Hooker Jamie Blamire crossed the try-line twice with blindside Philip van der Walt and standin No.10 Ethan Grayson completing Newcastle’s scoring on a memorable night.

Sporting a huge grin, Newcastle’s director of rugby Steve Diamond, said: “I’m delighted, to get the monkey off the club’s back from the longest run of losses.

“I’ve been here six months and am trying to build something which is taking time, and hopefully this is just the start.

“The job in hand is putting in performances like this at home. This is what I expect – I saw it a little against Bristol, didn’t see it against Leicester. But we simplified everything and this is the first time we stuck to the plan.

Hybrid Hash will tie Borthwick in knots

THE description 'Hybrid Central Contracts' does not inspire confidence. Hybrid usually means a bit of this, and a bit of that — and 'Hybrid Hash' would be a more apt term for the RFU contracts given to 17 England players just before the autumn series slump.
