On Mother's Day last year, I was rehearsing for Dancing With the Stars before the live show on Sunday night. I barely saw my little mother, who'd travelled up from Hamilton to watch me and my dance partner Jared perform.
I was stuck inside the studio, rehearsing, getting made up and being wedged into my frock, which took hours.
My old school friend Anna made the trip up with my mum and hers, and Jared's partner Xander looked after the ladies when they arrived, making sure they had the right seats and checking they had everything they needed.
Mum was shown on the show that night, a smile on her face and clapping enthusiastically, but unfortunately, it was my last dance. (Until we were brought back because two of the other performers came down with Covid.) I took Mum home from the show and we had a late-night cup of tea. She gave me a big hug and told me how well I'd done.
