CAN MEGHAN RESCUE THE FAILING SUSSEX BRAND?

After a period of self-imposed purdah, she’s back! Dressed in shimmering gold to receive a Woman of Vision award in New York, in a sleek mini dress for a sushi date with Harry, looking impossibly stylish hiking, and winning a digital media award at the glittering Gracies (which honours female achievement).

And not before time, some may say, as the Sussex brand needs not just relaunching but resuscitating.

In the US, commentators and polls have been saying for months that even Americans – despite their huge appetite for soap opera and instinctive sympathy for a supposedly wronged compatriot – were tiring of Harry and Meghan’s endless whingeing.

Many found their ceaseless complaining about their alleged mistreatment offputting and downright exhausting.

In January, a poll for Newsweek revealed that in little more than a month, Prince Harry’s popularity had plunged 45 points in US public opinion while Meghan’s had tumbled by 36 points.

The poll was conducted just after the publication of Spare and a month after the release of the couple’s Netflix documentary.
