Aside from the frankly ridiculous assertion that William and Catherine, Princess of Wales should be joined at the hip at every public appearance (this is the 21st century, after all), there were a couple of good reasons why Kate stayed in Windsor.

First, the two-day trip was to announce the 2023 finalists of William’s prestigious environmental award, The Earthshot Prize, which is very much his baby.

Second, as I have often observed (and indeed Kate has told me when I’ve chatted to her), their three children always take priority.
